Ok, the best part of the whole thing is that Miramax has teamed with A Band Apart to make this film. The bigger the production company the more big name stars they'll get and the higher status Michael will get by starring with them. Good all the way around.
Down side is that many Quentin bashers (as seen on the IMDB messageboards to name one) are slamming him for his copies of films made 20, 30 or more years ago. Personally, I say big frickin deal, everyone copies stuff nowadays, and frankly we need some updated versions of some of the classics that todays generations can relate to and appreciate. (This is said to be loosely based on the Dirty Dozen).
And one other little factoid is that Michael's character Babe Buchinsky is a name that pays homage to Charles Bronson who's real last name was Buchinsky. Set to be released in 2006, at least it's through the developmental stages which is the point where a lot of these films get scrapped.

Tarantino's New Mandarin Movie 2 November 2004 (WENN) Cult American director Quentin Tarantino is making a new action film entirely in the Chinese Mandarin language. The film will be an homage to the 1970s low-budget 'chopsocky' kung-fu genre, which Tarantino is a long-time admirer of. He is planning two versions, one with English subtitles and another dubbed into English, deliberately badly, as a nod to the original 'chopsocky' films. He tells British movie magazine Total Film, "My next movie is gonna be another kung fu film that's gonna blow your a*ses off. The next movie will be in Mandarin. I enjoyed shooting all the Japanese stuff in Kill Bill so much that this whole film will be entirely in Mandarin. If you're not up to watching it with subtitles, I really want to do a full-on dubbed version." The film, which will begin production next year, replaces Inglorious Bastards, a Second World War epic Tarantino has in the pipeline.
Got that off the IMDB Pro, and I'm not sure if that was already discussed, but at least its a piece of current news about this topic.

Yeah, that made 'The Passion..." that much harder to watch. Good movie, but had to watch twice to get it all.

I would love to see Michael in this movie I think he would be a great as a soldier. I am personally not a great fan of remakes they are rarely as good and sometimes just truly terrible especially if they are being compared to an original which was a classic. Exceptions for me have been To Be Or Not To Be, Ocean's Eleven I could probably think of a few others. BUT I think Quentin is such a different director and really brings such a different spin on things that although the essence of the movie will be The Dirty Dozen I'm sure his treatment will be radically different so you won't be thinking about comparing the two it will stand on its own.

QT TALKS 'INGLORIOUS BASTARDS'... From MovieHole: The Michael Madsen-starring War Pic is a lock for the next release, he says. "I'm doing Inglorious Bastards next. It's my bunch-of-guys-on-a-mission movie. It's my World War 2 movie". Maybe we'll get to see this one soon after all!

Yeah, that made 'The Passion..." that much harder to watch. Good movie, but had to watch twice to get it all. Now see...I'm the exact opposite. When I watched 'Brotherhood of the Wolf' I had to have my friend switch it to the original French with English subtitles. I couldn't STAND watching the dubbed version....drove me up a wall. I have a thing for foreign films anyway.

Here's a bit of info from QT on who he'd like to have in the movie:
(source:MovieHole.net Seems those unremitting rumours about Quentin Tarantino wanting to round-up screen's biggest stars for a new WWII pic called "Inglorious Bastards" as a accurate as a nutrional information table on a bottle of Sprite. According to The Arnold Fans, Tarantino wants - in addition to Bo Svenson, Michael Madsen and Adam Sandler - three of the 80's biggest action guns to fire up for his two-part Dirty Dozen. "I've said it once and I am going to say it again. I want Bruce, Sly and Arnold for my World War II epic. I have always dream[t] of having these 3 superstars together in a movie", says the Saturday Night Fever boardgame playing director. How's Governor Schwarzenegger supposed to fit this in with his busy schedule though? "Maybe during the holidays. We'll shoot the movie quickly". Tarantino says he originally planned "Bastards" in 1998, but left it to sear for a while, while he went off and made other pics. "Right now I think it's the best time to have them. I am very well free right now to focus on this big project that I have had in mind for quite a number of years.", says Tarantino, adding that he hopes to have the film out in 2006.
