This was my "halloween-ish" poem this year. October is my favorite month...mostly because my favorite holiday and my Mom's birthday get celebrated on the same day . There are a couple of references in here that are pure Celtic mythology that I will address: Anwynn: The Great Hound of the underworld who roams in the darkness before the rebirth of the God Cernnunos (the sun) in Spring. Cerridwyn: The Celtic Goddess of Creation and Death, her cauldron represents the womb of the world, and the gate to the afterlife. OctoberOctober holds the promise that lays hidden in the bones of the world and holds it forth for all to see in deep amber hues. Herein lie the mysteries of the soul and the grave for those who know where to look. It is October after all where ghosts dance in the bonfire twilight and men prepare for the coming of Anwynn by gathering the final fruits before the chilling fray. The wind blows it along and the smell of autumn mingles with it's smoke and laughter. October is on its way. The crisp cool nights and progression of an ever dying Sun serves to remind us just how fragile mortality really is. October is the final breaths before the enveloping darkness, where memory and penitence cling and intertwine. The mouth of the cauldron yawns wide, calling...return. And Cerridwyn beckons.

I'm telling you, you are a poet. This captures the essence and feel of that season in a way that allows the reader to filter in their own perception of it. Awesome.
